Take advantage of the transition period before autumn to resume some good habits and return to a healthy lifestyle. At times it takes a bit of help, so that’s exactly what I have done for you! After a bit of research on dietetic foods, I fancied posting an article about 7 smoothies that could get us through the week. As well as the essential benefits of fruit and vegetables, the new generation of smoothies is filled with super foods. Similarly to super heroes, super foods also have magical powers thanks to their vitamins and minerals that can help us fight certain illnesses. For example Maca can help boost your immune system and libido, while chia seeds act as anti-inflammatory and help fight cancer. Acai berries on the other hand help you lose weight and diminish arthritis.

It is undeniable, these super foods will soon become our best remedies!

To help us make this article 100% about the best possible smoothies, we have called in the ‘Smoothie Queen of Geneva’, Marie Ferrari. She started taking interest in smoothies after being diagnosed with anaemia, and is now unbeatable on the subject. As well as working on her blog, Marie organises workshops on smoothies for any level, which I was lucky enough to attend with two fellow Swiss bloggers Soraya Bakthiar and Alienor De Feron.

Marie taught us the benefits of super foods, gave us loads of good advice on how to make good smoothies (yes, it can happen for them to be healthy but taste disgusting) and also that we can use frozen fruit in our smoothies! We no longer need to chop a pineapple first thing in the morning; we can just get a bag out of the freezer! As for the super foods, you will be able to find everything you are looking for in the Smoothies Addict shop or in any health food store. Grab a basket, it’s time to fill your fridge and try out all the good recipes of Smoothies Addict!

You will also find a short What-to-Where interview at the end with our favourite smoothie expert, Marie Ferrari. Enjoy!

Can you remember your first smoothie? What was it and where was it?

It was roughly three years ago, following a doctor’s appointment for the nth time, something clicked, I grabbed all the fruits that were lying around my house and blended them together with green tea! It tasted really good, and from then on I decided to take a closer look at smoothies and that’s when Smoothies Addict began!

Your favourite superfood? Why?

I have several, which makes it hard to answer, but I would say Maca powder as it tastes of caramel and goes with pretty much every smoothie!

It’s on trend, but will it last?

Effectively, smoothies are very much in fashion at the moment. That said, it’s not new that we should have five fruits and vegetables a day. I find smoothies the easiest way to meet that target and therefore think that smoothies still have a bright future ahead of them!

If you weren’t the Queen of Smoothies, what would you do?

What an honour, ‘Queen of smoothies’, waouh!!! I might have started a blog about music, as it is one of my passions and spend hours on YouTube searching for new songs.

You are a mum, do you have a back to school look you can share with us?

My son is five and constantly running around, therefore my style has to be quite laid back. I have a crush on skinny jeans, cool tees and stylish sneakers like daddy, Stan Smith, Nike or Converse.

Your last fashion buy?

I am slowly starting to buy autumn pieces even if it breaks my heart to part with the light and airy summer pieces. I have just invested in a fantastic pair of thigh high suede boots which I can’t wait to wear.

A pair of shoes for a first date?

Clearly, black designer high heeled courts, Louboutin, Gianvito Rossi or Valentino, as long as my date doesn’t intend on taking me out dancing all night 😉

Your 3 beauty essentials?

–       My Midnight Recovery from Kiehl’s, it will never leave my side!!!

–       My TruSelf Organics detox beauty mask, with 100% natural and organic ingredients.

–       My face and body scrub from Frank Body, made from coffee and coconut oil, only 100% natural products.

Best ingredient for good skin?

For me, it’s not an ingredient that allows me to have « good skin» but a ritual of several things:

  • Good night sleep
  • Being hydrated, drinking water and always more water (including coconut water!!)
  • Eating healthy

The best smoothie to seduce a man?

To seduce any man I don’t know, but to seduce my man, any smoothie works as long as I prepared it with love!!

My husband is a high level sportsman, so his heart would skip a beat for any smoothie made with hemp protein!

A tune from your current playlist?

Falling Short – Lapsley

A very sweet, calming and soothing tune. I love the singer’s voice!

You live in Geneva, which are your « cool spots » ?

I often go to En Faim for lunch in the Eaux-Vives neighborhood, they offer fresh juices, amazing salads and at a very reasonable price.

I also love the Vert Attitude restaurant, offering a truly delicious full vegetarian buffet.

For dinner or just to have a drink, I often go to the Sixième Heure, which is close to where I live and their homemade lemonade is just outstanding.

If you had to choose a destination for a weekend in the month of September?

Maybe stroll through the Milan Fair during the Jeûne genevois weekend!
