Traveling With Children: 5 Problems and Their Solutions

It may seem that the birth of a child means the end of everything that was interesting in your life, especially traveling. But several months pass (or even a year), the new parents recover from the shock, get used to the constant lack of sleep and lack of personal time and begin to timidly dream about a boring trip to the sea.

The main thing that newbie parent-travelers need to put up with is that traveling with a small child is not really peaceful. It is much more difficult in the organizational and emotional part. You will have many real and imaginary problems associated with traveling and preparing for it. What are they and how to deal with them? Let’s find out:

1. Adaptation

Fear not the adaptation, but re-adapting upon returning from rest. Not every child’s body will like a sharp change from the sunny beach to a harsh winter. In the first week after returning from vacation it is better to minimize walks, beware of crowded places and hypothermia.

In the first days, do not let your baby be in the sun for a long time as the child does not need heatstroke. Spend the hottest time of the day (between noon and 4 indoors. Do not forget about sunscreen for children and headdress. Drink plenty of clean water to avoid dehydration.

Sometimes children experience food acclimatization, which is expressed in short-term indigestion. It can be the result of addiction to water or local cuisine and does not require treatment.

2. Change of time zones

The difference of 2 hours is not critical. A sharper change of time zones may require adjusting the daily regime. The older the child is, the easier and faster they will get used to getting up and falling asleep in a new time zone.

It is better to prepare children up to one year of age for regime change in advance and to shift the time of rising and falling asleep in the direction of the necessary a couple of weeks before the trip.

3. Baby is sick

A child who is ill on the eve of a trip can disrupt everything that you have been striving for several months. You should avoid crowded places a week before the vacation, walking in the cold, dressing warm, and not drink chilled drinks.

If the disease catches the child on vacation, you should have a first aid kit. Specify in advance the list of clinics that work with your insurance company. Try to get into a large hospital and get an appointment with a pediatric doctor.

4. Transit

If you want to travel by car it will be better to choose a new, big and comfortable leased car if your own small and not suitable for long trips. You will be able to control your trip and choose the right temperature in the car, a time when to stop and so on. Also, such a trip will be easier for the child as traveling on a plane can beсome a stressful test.

But if you decide to travel on the plane then your task is to be able to organize the flight time of the child, entertain, and not let get tired of the flight. Children are different and someone will only help the tablet, someone food, another drawing, the fourth a new toy. And it is better to have all the neutralizing weapons at hand and apply in turn.

5. Vacations will cost more

Traveling with a child younger 2 years old has a significant plus as an infant does not need to buy a separate plane ticket and pay for hotel accommodation and this significantly reduces travel costs.

On the other hand, you are waiting for an overpayment for comfort. You are unlikely to want to fly with 4 transfers to save several hundred dollars. And you probably prefer to spend the night with a child in a more or less pleasant hotel, rather than at the airport.
