When you hear of all the human trafficking going on around the world, you may worry about your own safety or about the safety of others who you care about. It is important to be able to take care of yourself so that you can defend yourself against those who may try to harm you. If you know someone who is not ready to defend themselves, it is important for you to encourage them to learn to take care of themselves. If you are a woman, you need to know basic safety tips such as those that are found below to keep yourself safe.

Keep Up Your Awareness

No matter where you are, but especially if you are outside alone, you need to be aware of your surroundings. You hear human trafficking stories all the time of abduction when a person was busy doing something else. Keep yourself as alert as possible at all times so that you can know who is around you and what is around you if you do end up needing help or becoming endangered. Notice quickly if there is someone who appears to be following you, whether they are following you in a car or in person. Make sure you always know where your phone is as well so that you can call emergency services quickly if it does become necessary for your survival.

Be Confident

Those who want to harm women are more than likely interested in those who lack confidence and look as if they cannot defend themselves. These individuals are considered easy targets in that they will not try to fight back according to the predators. Always make eye contact with anyone who you pass by or who you are close to so that you can know exactly what people look like, plus you may scare predators away from this way. Always keep moving when a stranger tries to approach you, and stay firm in your decisions and in your authority.

Stay Cautious

If a stranger stops to ask you for help, be very cautious and wary of the situation especially if you are alone. There are many predators who try to use this approach to lure kind women in who are willing to help strangers. Keep your doors lock if you pull up to someone who looks as if they need help, and keep your focus on the road to be able to drive away if necessary. Do not allow anyone you do not know into your home, and consider not even answering the door if you are home alone.

Speak Up for Yourself

If you are somewhere alone at night or if you are getting off of work late, ask someone you trust to walk you to your car. Consider asking the security guard, an employee at the location you are at, or even a coworker to take a quick walk with you. If you feel as if someone is following you, be sure to tell someone quickly that are one of these individuals so that they can help you. If you feel that you are in danger, scream quickly to try to scare off the predator as well as this will draw attention to them.

Know Self-Defense

If a predator does begin to attack you or try to attack you, it is so important to know self-defense tactics. There are free videos online to help you learn, and there are even classes in your area. This will help you to know how to fight back and to navigate the stress of the situation in an efficient manner. Be sure to keep mace and any other defense mechanisms with you or in your handbag at all times as well in case something were to happen.

Unfortunately, in many cases, women have to be much more cautious about maintaining their personal safety. This is especially true when you are alone or if you are getting off of work late at night or in an empty area of town. Be sure to always be aware of your surroundings and ask for help when you are in need of it wherever you are. Know basic self-defense as well so that you are able to fight and possibly even escape from any negative situation that you find yourself in.
