If you’re not a natural blonde, there’s a high chance you’ve thought about getting your hair dyed blonde at some point. The problem is that getting the perfect blonde hair you’ve always wanted can be a very difficult and long process. If you’ve never dyed your hair before, there are things you’ll want to know, and if you’ve dyed it other colours, it can be difficult to strip it all out and get your ideal shade of blonde. Here are some of the factors which you should consider when trying to achieve your perfect look.
- Know which shade you want
Unfortunately, telling the hairdresser that you want ‘blonde’ hair isn’t good enough. Your idea of blonde might be very different from somebody else’s idea of blonde, and since there are so many different shades, it helps if you are specific about what you want. If you’ve seen pictures of blonde hair but you don’t know the shade, show your hairdresser and they will be able to help you work out exactly what it is. If you’re doing it yourself at home, look on the packages of hair dyes, as this will tell you what colour it is.
- Don’t expect to look like the models
It’s very difficult to achieve the exact shade as the one in the picture, so don’t get your hopes up too high and don’t be disappointed if it’s slightly off by the time it’s finished. You might have to have more than one salon appointment in order to get the colour you need. For many people, it takes two or three times before their hair lightens enough to become the blonde shade they wanted.
- Use extensions to enhance the appearance
If you’ve got the shade you want but you’re not too happy about the length or the volume of your hair, you can change this by getting blonde hair extensions to add in. In order for this to look perfect, you need to find the shade which matches the shade of your hair. If you have highlights or a rare shade of blonde in your hair, it is difficult to find exactly the right match, but with some research and help from a stylist, you’ll be able to get what you need.
- Use a colour shampoo and conditioner
The right types of shampoo and conditioner will help the colour of your hair to stay bright and beautiful for longer. Don’t use any old products – make sure you’re using quality salon products which are designed for hair which has been coloured blonde. Some shampoos can alter the colour of your hair too, while a shampoo specially designed for hair which has been coloured blonde will be able to counter-balance any brassy tones that you want to get rid of.
- Don’t over-wash
Since your hair will have dye in it, washing it too often can cause the colour to fade, and if you’ve paid big money to get the shade you want, this is more than a little disappointing. Wash your hair with a good colour shampoo and conditioner 2-3 times per week.
