5 Foods Piles Patient should Include in Diet

This is not a secret anymore that our food habits have changed extensively with the entry of international food joints in the country. The mushrooming of these restaurants have impacted the health condition of the people of the country and not in a good way! Studies show that the young population who frequently visit these food joints are already suffering from a chronic condition such as constipation. This has resulted in an increase in diseases such as piles. As the consumption of junk food is the main reason behind this problem, it makes sense to make modifications to the food habits of the individual. Here are 5 foods to include in your daily diet to cure piles or prevent them from developing.

  • Consume a fiber-rich diet

It is recommended to eat a fiber-rich diet if one is suffering from piles. This is so because fiber makes the stool soft which helps in regular bowel movements. It is recommended to take 25 to 30 grams of fiber daily. Here is the list of food which is rich in fiber and should be eaten if you have piles-

  • Include prunes in your diet

Chronic constipation is one of the major factors that contribute to the development of piles in older adults. Eat six prunes on a daily basis as these are high in fiber which can prevent piles. You can also drink prune juice as this has a high sorbitol content which acts as a natural laxative.  Stop its consumption if you feel gas or bloating. Keep it in mind that drinking water along with eating prunes is essential. Because if you don’t, you could get constipated and cause the condition of piles to aggravate. 

  • Eat a good amount of fruits and vegetables

It is important that you increase the intake of whole fruits rather than juice as these contain more fiber.

  • Include curd in your daily diet

Probiotics are good bacteria that help to regulate the digestive tract. Curd contains lots of these which help in a regular bowel movement and ultimately, helps to relieve pain from piles. But it should be kept in mind that choosing a probiotic is important. Curd helps the digestive system to work well and pass the stool without or with much less discomfort. The benefits of taking curd with fruits are really good for dietary fiber, protein, and stomach. Although skim milk and other dairy products should be avoided when suffering from piles, the curd is a good agent that should be incorporated into the diet. 

  • Try a liquid diet

If suffering from piles, a liquid diet might be helpful. A liquid diet doesn’t necessarily mean consuming only fluids. A liquid diet majorly includes fluids and foods that turn into clear liquids at room temperature. So, it is easy to digest and recommended after surgery, especially of the digestive tract. Some food choices included in a liquid diet are-

There are no effects of eating non-veg foods in small quantities when suffering from piles. Provided a high-fiber diet and lots of fluids are consumed. But non-veg foods, especially meat, can have an adverse effect on health when eaten in large quantities. 

Along with non-veg, it is recommended to avoid the following food items when suffering from piles –

  • Carbonated and Caffeinated Drinks lead to a bloated stomach or constipation. This can lead to irregular and painful bowel movements and further aggravate piles. 
  • Dairy food such as skim milk, whipped cream, heavy- thick shakes and smoothies that are heavy on the stomach should be avoided if one has piles.
  • Oily or spicy food puts extra strain on the veins of the anal region.
  • Polished rice loses all its fiber and nutrition at the time of polishing. They can cause constipation, which can create inconvenience in passing stool during piles.
  • Bakery food including bread and cakes should be avoided as they are devoid of any fiber and leads to the formation of hard stools that are difficult to pass for the patient suffering from piles.

There are no restrictions for eating nonveg while suffering from piles, but its best to avoid it because this can lead to constipation and further aggravate the condition. 

In addition to eating a healthy diet, it is important that you drink lots of water and avoid spicy foods. Additionally, move around occassionally if your job largely includes sitting in one place and working. If you don’t follow this diet plan and work out judiciously, then it is possible that you develop piles and have immense pain or feel a lump in the anal region.
