With summer being just around the corner, people are starting to consider their holiday options. Planning a vacation is a pretty straight-forward process which involves looking for a good hotel, finding the most affordable flight and picking out what you’re going to wear. When it comes to being organised, there are those who plan their vacation weeks in advance and make sure they’re fully packed and prepared when the time comes. However, most of us simply dread packing and tend to arrive at our hotels only to realise we have (again) forgotten something. That’s why we’ve prepared this ultimate packing checklist you should incorporate into your holiday planning to make sure you don’t forget a single thing ever again.
Take at least a couple of plain, cotton t-shirts. Polyester is the last material you want to wear during the summer as it will only make you extremely sweaty. You probably won’t need more than two pairs of trousers and a couple of long-sleeved shirts just in case you’re going out for a fancy dinner. Pack at least three to four pairs of shorts and if you’re a girl, a couple of light, summer dresses.
Although you’ll be travelling in the middle of summer, be sure to pack at least one jacket. A cool ocean breeze can quickly turn into a cold wind during night-time, especially if it starts raining. When it comes to swimwear, the rule of thumb is to take two pairs, so you’ll always have one to wear while the other one is drying. That said, you can always buy those cheaply, so they’re really not that big of a deal.
Underwear, socks, and shoes
You should bring a pair of socks for every day of the vacation, and throw in a few extra pairs just to be safe. This is particularly important for those who like to spend their holiday visiting various locations around the hotel and taking long walks and hikes. Also, pack the same amount of underwear. It’s summer, and you will be sweating a lot. When it comes to shoes, you need at least one pair of comfortable walking shoes and one pair of slides or flip flops. If you’re an avid gym goer, then you should consider packing a pair of trainers as well.
This might sound a bit redundant, but you’d be surprised how often people miss their flights simply because they forgot to bring their passport. The same can be said about aeroplane tickets, driving licenses and IDs. Make sure to double, if not triple-check for any important pieces of documentation you might need on your vacation, including car hire vouchers and hotel reservation printouts.
Men really don’t have to worry about stuff like this, as almost all toiletries can be purchased at local stores. These include things such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, sunscreen, etc. Women, on the other hand, often have to think about makeup, foundations, eyeliners, lipsticks and so on, as different skin types and skin colours require different toiletry products. Therefore, if you’re a girl, make sure to bring everything you need for a perfect night out.
Sunglasses and sun hats are a must, no matter where you’re going, as they will help keep your eyes and face protected from harmful UV rays. The optometrist in Broadway Shopping Centre offers a number of different models that come with UV protection, so you might want to check those out instead of purchasing the cheapest possible model that has absolutely no protection. You should also have a cheaper pair of sunglasses that you can quickly grab out of your bag and put on without worrying about damaging it; just make sure those glasses also have proper UV protection.
Other than these few items, don’t forget any medicine you might be taking, as well as some travel medicine for upset stomach and some probiotics. It’s not that uncommon that people don’t respond well to foreign cuisine and end up upsetting their stomachs. Keep your phone and laptop with you at all times, and avoid packing them alongside your luggage in case it gets lost by the airline, which does tend to happen quite often.
